What is an intellectual property clause?

An intellectual property clause is a clause in an employment contract that governs rights and obligations relating to intellectual property. This may cover creations and inventions that an employee develops during his or her employment that are related to the employer's work. The intellectual property clause typically provides that all intellectual property rights relating to such creations and inventions are automatically transferred to the employer, and may also contain restrictions regarding the use and disclosure of such intellectual property after termination of employment.
