What is the reflection period (bedenktermijn)?
The cooling-off period in employment law allows employees to reconsider signing a termination agreement or settlement agreement within a set period of time without having to give a reason. This period, usually 14 days after signing, is intended to protect employees from impulsive decisions and to safeguard their interests within the employment relationship. If the employer does not include a reflection period in the termination agreement, a reflection period of three weeks rather than two automatically applies. But note that the reflection period does not apply in the case of unilateral termination by the employee.
