What does an occupational health physician do?
The occupational health physician is often confused with the company physician, but the two roles are not quite the same. The occupational health physician works for the occupational health and safety service and performs their duties under the supervision and direction of a company physician. During the return-to-work process, it may therefore be the case that the consultation with the company physician is actually conducted by the occupational health physician. In such cases, the occupational health physician often monitors the progress of the reintegration and, if necessary, provides feedback to the company physician. When a decision must be made regarding reintegration (or reintegration options), that decision is made by the company physician.
